College profile
College of Public Health was founded in August, 2003. The college includes Department of Public Health (undergraduate program, master program, PhD program), Department of Occupational Safety and Health (undergraduate program, master program, executive master program), Department of Health Services Administration (undergraduate program, master program, executive master program), and International Master Program for Public Health . The present dean distinguished professor Bing-Fang Hwang took charge of the college in August, 2017.
Objectives
- Through teaching and research of cross departments, professionals in different kinds of public health fields are trained.
- We devote ourselves to the research of the major public health issues today, which are derived from impacts made by industrialization, urbanization, ageing society etc.
- We enhance the entire health status and quality of life for the nationals and eventually, help to achieve a state of wellness.
Goal of education
The goal of education of this college is to teach students the knowledge in public health field so that they can face with general public health related issues and specific issues derived from industrialization and urbanization. Other goals are to study health risk, to enhance medical care and service quality, to implement health policy, to enforce occupational site safety, to implement the prevention of disease and to promote the health of all citizens in this country. Moreover, this college also collaborates with the goal of this university to educate students from the department of medicine, the department of Chinese medicine, the department of dentistry, the department of pharmacy, the department of nursing and the departments of health sciences the needed knowledge and skills so that they can identify, analyze and study the health issues of nationals and vulnerable people, fully understand related environmental and social-economic factors that might affect health and disease, and recognize the development of health issues in the international society.
To achieve the above goals, this college has acted aggressively:
- To setup creative and efficient education topics for the study of Taiwan’s environmental, community and occupational health issues so that students can provide better services to the society.
- To develop human resource in the public health and preventive medicine fields.
- To keep in contact with the community groups to collaborate for solving issues in public health fields.
- To keep announcing information and policy that are helpful to the enhancement of people’s health.
- To encourage teaching staff and students to participate in international public health related topics.
To achieve our educational missions, the education of this college is carried out based on the spirit of the school motto of this university, namely, “kindness, cautiousness, diligence and probity”. It is hoped that core values of this university, namely, competence, compassion, context and construction, can be delivered to the students through our education.
Future development
- This college will expand its research scope appropriately in accordance with the public health needs such as health care, risk assessment, sustaining environment and occupational safety and health of the whole country.
- This college will enhance its teaching and research quality to make itself a diversified public health college.
- This college will enhance international exchanges with other foreign universities to expand student’s vision.
- This college will devote itself to the enhancement of the level of public health education of students, and it will also act aggressively for the development of excellent and professional human resources in the field of public health.
- To shape itself with the change of trend, this college will integrate the development directions of different departments and graduate institutes to make itself a main cradle for the incubation of human resources in the public health filed in this country.
